Until fairly recently anyone who expressed concern about the degradation of the environment raised skeptical eyebrows. That has fully changed now, since we all apparently have an awareness that the planet is having troubles, and we all have a part to play in fixing it. Unless everyone begins to start living more environmentally friendly we won’t be able to correct the problems of the environment. This should happen soon and living in approaches more friendly to the environment should become an objective for every individual family. Read on for some approaches to go green and save energy, generally in the kitchen.

Although it may not taste as good, cooking food in the microwave rather than in the oven will save you a packet of money. As soon as you find out it takes 75% more energy to cook in the oven, chances are you’ll look for more ways to use the microwave. Countertop appliances will boil water or steam vegetables faster than your stove, and use a lot less electricity. You could well be forgiven for thinking that an automatic dishwasher uses much more energy than washing dishes the old-fashioned way, but you would be wrong. Particularly if you make sure the dishwasher is full before starting a cycle. Save even more money by air drying and also cool drying your dishes as an alternative to heat drying them.

As you can see, there are plenty of little elements that you can do to save energy, and also save money, in the kitchen alone. It is pretty easy to live green, all things considered. Largely, all it will take is a little common sense.
